Hello everyone!

I’m Ayana, a Vtuber!

Today, I will explain how to create a Light layer and set up Shadows!

Let’s begin!

Let’s start!

With the light layer, it is possible to brighten the layer as if it were a spotlight, or to shadow the part where the spotlight does not shine.

Create Light Layer

Let’s create a light layer first!

From Layer tab on the menu bar ->Select New -> Light .

The Light Settings dialog box appears. Here, you can change the name, the light type, and the color of the light. Click the OK button when you have made changes.

A light layer has been created on the timeline panel.

In the composition panel, you will see the light layer is shown like this.

Set up Light Layer

Once you have created the light layer, let’s set up the detailed light settings!

Structure of a light

First, I will explain the structure of the light you created.

The lights are basically composed of ① Light and ② Target points.

Set the light type

Next, let’s change the type of light!

To change the light type of the created light layer, select the light layer on the timeline panel, and click Light Settings from the layer on the menu bar.

Change the light type

When the Light Settings dialog box appears, select the light type from the Light Type menu and click OK button.

The Light type

Parallel lights are lights that do not diffuse light but shine in one direction like sunlight. The outline becomes clear when shadowed.

Spot light is the type of light that expands in circles and shines in points. We can adjust the line of the projection and adjust the dimness of the light.

Unlike Spot lights, Point lights are lights that spread in all directions around the light source. You can partially brighten the layer or adjust the intensity of the light.

Ambient light is a different kind of light than any other kind. It’s used to adjust the overall brightness. We’re going to use Spot and Point. Please note that Ambient can’t add shadows.

Set Light color

Next, let’s change the color of the light!

Click the color box in the Light Settings dialog box.

Select the color you want to change and click the OK button

You can change the color of the light by clicking the OK button in the Light Settings dialog box.

Add shadow to layer

Next, let’s create a shadow of the layer!

If you shine a light on the front layer, you can add shadow to the part where the light does not shine on the back layer.

Create Shadow

When you open the Light Settings dialog box, check Casts Shadows.

You can adjust the shadow darkness by changing the Shadow Darkness value.

By changing the Shadow Diffusion value, you can adjust how blurred the outline of the shadow is.

Click the OK button when the settings are complete.

Set layer properties in Timeline panel

Set Casts Shadows

Just by checking Casts Shadows, it will not create a shadow yet, so turn on the Casts Shadows property from the Material Options property of the layer you want to shadow.

Set up Accepts Shadows

Also we can set Accepts shadow for the back layer by turning on the Accepts Shadows property from the Material Options property of the layer to be shadowed.

If you check the Composition panel, you can see the shadow on the back layer like this. If you change the position of the light or the target point, the shadow will also change.

This is the end of the lecture on how to create Light layers and set up Shadows!
