I’m Ayana, a Vtuber!
Today, I will explain how to duplicate layers and set up labels.
Layers in a composition can be duplicated to create multiple layers with the same content.
Also, if you duplicate layers, there will be similar layers in the composition and you will get confused. One of the functions of After Effects, which is convenient for such occasions, is “Labels”. You can easily distinguish between similar layers by setting labels to layers.
This is the Time Panel. First, choose the layer which you want to duplicate.
From Edit in menu bar, select Duplicate.
The selected layer has been duplicated!
You can also easily duplicate it with the [Ctrl+D] shortcut keys.
Now let’s label the duplicated layers and distinguish them!
The duplicated layer is displayed in the Timeline panel. It is difficult to distinguish between the two layers in this state.
I’m going to put a different label on one layer to distinguish it.
Now, you’re going to see a menu that lets you choose the color of the label.
In this case, I will pick Purple.
The color of label has changed!
Now you can easily distinguish between the two duplicated layers!
Select Label Group
Label function is not only useful for distinguishing layers, but also when you want to group multiple layers together.
You can select layers with labels of the same color at the same time.
Select a layer with the colored label you want to select.
From Edit in menu -> Label -> click Select Label Group
Those layers with the label of the same color have been selected!
If you want to manipulate multiple layers at the same time, it’s very convenient to set the layers to the same label group like this!
Well, this concludes my explanation on how to duplicate layers and set up labels!
