I’m Ayana, a Vtuber!
Today, I will explain how to import and edit materials in After Effects.
The process to import files is the same for both images and videos. Now I will explain how to import materials into After Effects.
Import from Menu
From File > Import > select File
Select the file you want to import and click Import.
When you want to import multiple files at the same time, hold down the [Ctrl] key and click to select the file.
The imported files will be displayed in the Project panel.
Import from Project panel
Next, let’s import the file from the project panel! Right-click inside the project panel and select Import > File. The operation afterwards is the same as before.
Import by dragging files
You can also drag and drop files to import them.Drag and drop the file you want to import directly from Explorer. This is an easy way to import, while checking the contents and information of the file.
Next, let’s try importing a folder!
①In the Import File box, select the folder that you want to import.
②After selected, click [Import folder].
A folder with the same name as the folder you imported has been created in the Project Panel. All files in the folder are imported.
Importing still images with alpha channels
Next, let’s import images with alpha channels!
I’ll import the file in the same way as before.
In the Project panel, right-click on the material with the alpha channel and select [Interpret footage]>select [Main].
You can change the import settings with the Main Options tab.
When selecting [Ignore] , the alpha channel is ignored and the image file is imported as is.
When selecting [Straight- Unmatted], it is synthesized using only the black-and-white degree of the alpha channel. This is the basic configuration.
When selecting [Premultiplied – matted with color], the selected color will become transparent.
Organize files into folder
Next, let’s organize the files in the project panel into folders!
Click the “New Folder” button in the lower left corner of the project panel.
Name the new folder you created and drag and drop the material into the folder.
Import still images at a set length
Select Edit > Preferences > select Import to import the still image to the configured length.
You can specify the length for importing with [Still Footage] in [Import Settings].
Check Length of Composition to import still images with the same length as Composition.
This concludes my explanation on how to import materials into After Effects.
